It’s that time of the year, Wrestlemania is almost here. If you’re not a fan of the WWE and have no idea what Wrestlemania is then think of it as the Superbowl for the WWE. Throughout the year, the WWE has a pay-per-view every month and Wrestlemania is like there MAIN pay-per-view of the year. The WWE really puts on a big production with live music and big sets. If you have never seen a WWE pay-per-view, I suggest checking out Wrestlemania.
This year’s Wrestlemania is taking place in Dallas, Texas on Sunday, April 3, 2016. The Kick-off show starts at 5:00pm on the WWE Network. Now the Kick-Off Show is two hours long and the second hour will appear on the USA Network. The main show starts at 7:00pm and you can watch it on the WWE Network. The WWE Network is an online streaming app (you can watch it via your internet web browers, xbox, playstation, etc.). Normally it’s $9.99 per month, but if you are a NEW subscriber you can get your first month FREE. That’s right Wrestlemania could be your’s for FREE. I’m not sponsored by WWE….but totally open if they want to sponsor me….
So in this post, I will be going over the match card (the list of matches) set for Wrestlemania XXXII.
If you are new to the WWE, the kick-off show is great place to get caught up on the story lines leading up to the actually show. They will go over each match and show previous clips as to how the match came to be. In between summarizing the match card, the Kick-off Show actually has a couple of matches. Here’s the match card for the Kick-off Show:
Kalisto v. Ryback
WWE United States Championship Match
In this match we have the high flyer/daredevile, Kalisto, vs the Big Guy Ryback. It’s definitely a David and Goliath match.
Geeky Nikki’s Prediction: Ryback Wins
The Dudley Boyz v. The Usos
I recently went to a WWE house show (house show means it wasn’t televised… p.s. look out for my blog post about that later) and both of these tag teams were there and both were very entertaining.
At first, I didn’t like seeing the Dudley Boyz as heels (heels=bad guys); the whole “no more tables” thing was just annoying!!! I grew up watching the Dudley Boyz (so I was all about them putting people through tables). However, when I saw the Dudley Boyz being heels at the live show, it was so much fun to watch them ripping up people’s Usos’ signs (lucky they didn’t touch my New Day sign).
Geeky Nikki’s Prediction: The Usos. After coming back from an injury, it would be great to see the Usos win
Lana, Emma, Naomi, Tamina and Summer Rae v. Brie Bella, Paige, Natalya, Alicia Fox and Eva Marie
This match kinda feels like a last minute match. It’s almost like the producers or creative team were like “oh wait, we need a match at Wrestlemania featuring the female wrestlers on Total Divas! Let’s put them all together” (Total Divas is the E! reality show featuring several female WWE wrestlers (also known as Divas).
Geeky Nikki’s Prediction: Brie Bella, Paige, Natalya, Alicia Fox and Eva Marie. I’m not happy that Eva Marie is in this match. I would have loved to have seen Bayley or Carmella move up from NXT (NXT is WWE’s developmental branch. But really they are equally as awesome if not better than WWE). I picked this group to win because if rumors are true Brie Bella is retiring on Monday and I would love to see her win at Wrestlemania before she goes.
The Andre The Giant Memorial Battle Royal
Last year, the Big Show took the honors of winning the first ever, Andre the Giant Battle Royal. This year it could be anyone’s game. So far those confirmed are Heath Slater, Curtis Axel, Adam Rose, Bo Dallas, Big Show, and Kane. I’m expecting a few surprise NXT cameos are likely too.
Geeky Nikki’s Prediction: Kane
League of Nations v. New Day
Handicap Match (4 vs. 3)- Tag Team Championship Match
New Day Rocks!!! New Day is a great example of a faction that has a great bond inside and outside of the ring. The last faction I saw with this was the Shield. There’s just a fun and energetic vibe with the New Day that is infectious. Trust me, when I saw them live, I could help but get hyped when I heard Big E’s famous intro lines.
The league of nations is the opposite of that. They are kinda like the stereotypical foreign villains. I did get to see Wade Barrett and Sheamus at the house show and I felt they were able to show off their personality more there than on tv.
Geeky Nikki’s Prediction: New Day ROCKS
Kevin Owens v. Sami Zayn v. Dolph Ziggler v. Zack Ryder v. Sin Cara v. The Miz v. Stardust
Ladder Match- Intercontinental Championship
I have to say this is one hell of a line up for this match. During the house show, I saw Kevin Owens v. Sami Zayn; it was easily the match of the night. I always love seeing NXT talent (Owens, Zayn, and Ryder) in WWE matches. With this one being a ladder match, I’m expecting it to be a great match.
Geeky Nikki’s Prediction: Sami Zayn
P.S. I love following WWE/NXT wrestlers on Instagram. It’s awesome to see Stardust in full costume in public
AJ Styles v. Chris Jericho
AJ Styles has made it to Wrestlemania. Some background on AJ Styles, if you’re just tuning in, AJ Styles has been a big name in wrestling for years. He was signed to other wrestling companies like Ring of Honor, TNA, NJPW, and the independent circuit.
This is AJ Styles first year in the WWE and he has had a great start with this company. I think his feud with Chris Jericho has been a great way for him to get introduced to the WWE fans. Jericho has been a pro in buliding the hype around AJ Styles. I also saw AJ Styles at the house show and he was definitely a highlight of the night.
P.S. Check out the two episodes of Talk is Jericho featuring AJ Styles. They are both great listens.
Geeky Nikki’s Prediction: AJ Styles
Brock Lesnar vs Dean Ambrose
No Holds Barred Street Fight
This match definitely seems like the odd couple match. You got the BEAST Brock Lesnar versus the Lunatic Fringe, Dean Ambrose. Bless Dean Ambrose’s insanity and Paul Heyman’s mic skills because they make the road to this match very entertaining. Paul Heyman is a god on the mic. He knows how to sell a match and Dean Ambrose can play crazy like its his second skin. Overall, I think this match is going to be entertaining as long as Dean Ambrose can get to this big bag of weapons.
Geeky Nikki’s Prediction: Brock Lesnar
Charlotte v. Sasha Banks v. Becky Lynch
Triple-Threat Match- Divas Championship Match
Three out of the four horsewoman from NXT (we are just missing Bayley!! When is she going to move up to the main roster?) I feel like this will be a great match. I just hope that Ric Flair is not a ring side. I’m kinda tired of him getting involved in Charlotte’s matches. These are all talented women and I just want to see a clean match between all of them.
Prediction: Sasha Banks
The Undertaker vs Shane McMahon
Hell in a Cell
I consider this match the main event of Wrestlemania (even though technically it isn’t). Let me setup the back story. Shane McMahon is the son of Vince McMahon (Chairman of WWE) and brother to Stephanie McMahon. Shane McMahon left the WWE in 2009. Everyone thought that he left for good and there was no sign of him returning. Stephanie and her husband, Triple H, took over and started running the company. Well BIG surprise when Shane returned a month ago on RAW. Shane wanted to take over and run RAW (WWE’s weekly monday night show). Vince was like hold up you need to win one match at Wrestlemania and it’s against the Undertaker and it’s a hell in a cell match (the type of match the Undertaker is known for).
So here are the stipulations for the match:
- If Shane wins, Shane takes control of Monday Night RAW
- If Undertaker loses, Undertaker will not compete at WrestleMania again
HOLY SHIT! Now I don’t want anyone to lose!
Geeky Nikki’s Prediction: Shane McMahon. You can’t just bring Shane McMahon back after so many years and have him lose at Wrestlemania. On another note I really don’t want this to be Undertaker’s last match…I’m going to be glued to the tv for this one.
Triple H v. Roman Reigns
WWE World Heavyweight Championship
So here is our main event, Triple H (champion) versus Roman Reigns. Roman Reigns is turning more and more into John Cena (in terms of the crowd’s reaction to him). Reigns is constantly met with a sea of boos and cheers (like Cena).
When I went to the house show, I saw a good number of younger fans supporting Roman Reigns and when Roman Reigns came out there was still a mixture of cheers and boos. Those booing Reigns tend to be upset with the way Reigns has been pushed into the spotlight. There was an episode of Art of Wrestling with CM Punk, where Punk talks about how he was told that he had to make Reigns look “strong”. It’s the idea that the company is putting a spotlight on this wrestler and trying to sell him as the face of the company.
I honestly didn’t have a problem with Reigns until recently. I just haven’t been enjoying this aggressive (let’s beat up Triple H back stage) version of him. I kinda want to give him a snickers bar so he would chill out.
