Five Fandom Friday
5 Less Common Fandoms
I absolutely adore Simon and Martina. They’re an Canadian couple living in Japan (in earlier videos, they were living in South Korean). It’s truly an fantastic travel/food show. If you ever binge watched the travel or food channel or have any interest in going to Korean or Japan, then I highly suggest you watch their YouTube channel. Simon and Martina have such great personalities and you will just end up loving them. #relationshipgoals
Keeping with the YouTube theme is another channel, UpUpDownDown. This mixes two of my passions; wrestling and video games. UpUpDownDown is hosted by Austin Creed. If you watch WWE, you might know him as Xavier Woods from New Day. It’s very common to see other WWE superstars on UpUpDownDown playing some of their favorite video games. What I love the most about UpUpDownDown is seeing the wrestlers being themselves. Some times its easy to forget how down to earth these wrestlers can be. I think Austin Creed is a great host with a likable personality.
Even if you are not a fan of wrestling, I would highly recommend UpUpDownDown if you are a gamer. They showcase a wide variety of games (new and old). I love when they play the horror games and to see them freak out like the rest of us would.
3. Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt-Netflix
I LOVE Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt. Tina Fey is the producer (and pops into the show ever now and then). Right now, the show is on its second season on Netflix. Here’s the show in a nutshell, Kimmy Schmidt (played by Ellie Kemper) was in a cult for 15 years (living in an underground bunker). Now that she is free, she is moving to New York. So there are definitely a bunch of times were she is clearly stuck in the past and not aware of modern situations. She ends up rooming with Titus Andromedan (played by Tituss Burgess), a gay wannabe Broadway actor (who really has some of the best moments in the show). Kimmy also works for a rich trophy wife, Jacqueline White (played by Jane Krakowski).
I can’t stress enough how funny this show is. Kimmy is really an endearing lovable character.
2. Outsiders- WGN America
Outsiders is about a group called the Farrells that live on Shay Mountain in rural Kentucky. They live by their own laws and traditions. A mining company purchases the mountain and promises jobs to those living in a small town at the base of the mountain. The problem is the Farrells occupy the mountain which is preventing the mining company from setting up shop. The show highlights the tension between the Farrells and the town while providing a window into the power struggle within the Farrells.
1. Orphan Black- BBC America
I know Orphan Black is pretty popular, but I still feel like more people should be watching this show. It’s just so damn good!!! There’s a lot of twists and turns and once you think you figured everything out, you just fall deeper into the rabbit hole. What I love the most are the characters (and the wonderful actors that play them). Tatiana Maslany is a powerhouse of an actress playing multiple characters in this series. I should rewind and explain why she is playing so many characters.
The main character of Orphan Black is Sarah Manning (played by Tatiana Maslany). Through a series of events (I’ll try not to spoil too much here), she finds out that she is just one of many clones. The series is pretty much about her trying to figure out what the hell is all that about and keeping herself and her family (and clone family) safe. There are just so many layers to the story. It’s definitely one of my favorite shows out there.
